Weekend Outlook

Economoms' recommendations for the best budget-conscious family activities in the Maryland region for the weekend of September 24-26:

The FREE B-More Book Festival runs
all weekend in Historic Mt. Vernon
Baltimore Book Festival's Storybook Parade: The festival runs all weekend long, but Economoms thinks it would be crazy for local youngsters to miss the Storybook Parade that kicks off Saturday at noon on West Mt. Vernon Place! Live music leads the parade, and kids are welcome to march with some of their favorite costumed characters, like Frog & Toad, Curious George, Madeline, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Olivia the Pig! Children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character. Don't have a costume? No worries, there will be plenty to go around at the festival!

Free Family Fun Night at the Ellicott City YMCA: Members and non-members alike are invited to the Dancel Family Center Y for a free night of fun and entertainment! Enjoy a fitness class, the gym or pool, a challenge on the indoor rock climbing wall and plenty of games. Healthy snacks and giveaways will also be provided!

The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention's Friday Night Drive-In: Bring a lawnchair and settle in for a good old fashioned drive-in classic. A live performance from the Three Stooges will kick off the event, and vintage hot rods will be on display!  Yes, the fifties have returned! The Brain Eaters from 1958 is the special feature. The plot? A huge, seemingly alien structure has been found jutting out of the earth. How will humans stop the invasion!? Taking place in Hunt Valley, the convention lasts through Saturday.
