Weekend Outlook

Economoms' recommendations for the best budget-conscious family activities in the Maryland region for the weekend of October 1-3:

Olivia Goes to Venice: FREE! In her first new adventure in three years, Olivia the Pig takes her discerning eye for style to beautiful Venice on a family vacation that involves dodging pigeons in the Piazza San Marco, gorging on gelato, and barely staying afloat in a gondola! Designed for Olivia fans ages 5 to 8 at the Timonium Borders on Saturday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m.

National Apple Harvest Festival: October is synonymous with delicious apples! Roadtrip it to Gettysburg, PA this weekend or next to celebrate the yummy fall fruit. Kids 12 and under are FREE! Activities include:
  • Hay Rides
  • Kid Country Barn
  • Petting Zoo
  • Pie Eating/ Apple Bobbing
  • Pony Rides
  • Puppet Shows
  • Scarecrows R Us
Fells Point Fun Festival: This weekend long fun fest isn't just for singles looking to get their fill at the beer garden anymore. There's lots planned for kiddos too, including a Carnival of Wonders. Watch a real live flea circus, see magic performed before your very eyes, take a carnival ride, and eat some old-fashioned cotton candy! (And parents, go ahead and grab that beer!) Taking place Saturday, Oct. 2 and Sunday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the center of historic Fells Point.

The Teddy Bear Farm Visit at Clark's Farm: Hey kids! Grab your favorite teddy and head to the farm! Clark's in Howard County is offering FREE hayrides for all children who participate! There's also Teddy Bear Contests at 1 and 3 p.m.on both Saturday and Sunday. Sing along with folk music artist Tony McGuffin from noon-4 p.m. on both days, or get your face painted, ride the cow train, take a pony ride, or pick a pumpkin. Lots to do at Clark's this weekend!
