No need to set the alarm for tomorrow morning! Schools are closed in honor of President's Day, Monday, February 21, 2011. If another day inside the house will make you go bat crazy, here are a few activities to get you (or at least just your kids!) out and about.
Presidents Day Off Camp at Irvine Nature Center: While a bit pricey ($30 for members and $60 for non-members), we think this opportunity is absolutely worth every penny. Drop your 6-10 year olds off for a full day of exploring the stream, searching under logs and learning about animal habitats. Children will take part in trail walks, games, crafts and animal encounters. Best of all, YOU get a break while your kids work their energy off! Reservations are required. Call 443-738-9224. After care is available until 5 p.m. for those of you who work.
FREE Admission to Mount Vernon: Load up the van for a road trip! Located about an hour and a half outside of Baltimore, George Washington's estate can be visited for FREE tomorrow in honor of the president's 279th birthday. Special events include fife and drum performances, military demonstrations, and a surprise party for George that your kids can take part in.
George Washington Birthday Parade: Another quick road trip destination is Old Town Alexandria, where from 1-3 p.m. the town will celebrate Washington's birthday with a parade. Several museums, including the Friendship Firehouse Museum and the Lyceum History Museum, are also open for FREE on Monday in honor of the holiday.
Uncle Pete Fun with Kids at Port Discovery: Enjoy an interactive children's musical performance with a positive message! Get up on your feet and dance and sing-a-long with Uncle Pete! Two performances at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. FREE with regular museum admission.
Family Fun Day at Sandy Spring Museum: Check out this history museum in Columbia for FREE! There will be music, games, and fun from 1-3 p.m. in honor of President's Day.
