Economoms' recommendations for the best budget-conscious family activities in the Maryland region for the weekend of February 18-20:
$2 Family Fun Night at Port Discovery: Admission is just $2 the third Friday of every month from 4-7 p.m. The museum's newest exhibit, Tot Trails, opened last weekend. It allows kids to explore the unique landmarks and landscapes of Maryland. With museum tickets normally priced at $12.95, this is the perfect opportunity to sample the new exhibit for a bargain!
Maple Magic and Story Time at Irvine: It's the start of maple syrup season and Irvine wants to celebrate! On Saturday at 10 a.m. your kids aged 2 and up will enjoy sappy, sticky, and sweet tales at a FREE story time. Then at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, kids of all ages can hike through Irvine's woods in a quest to make maple syrup. They will learn how to identify maple trees, properly tap a tree to collect its sugary sap, and convert the sticky fluid into syrup using Irvine's enormous evaporator. Pretty cool, huh?! FREE for members, $10 for non-members.
Family Fun Day at McFadden Art Glass: Not many can say they've participated hands on in a glass blowing demo, but now you and your kids can at this FREE event the third Sunday of every month from 1-4 p.m. Recommended for children aged 5 and up. Reservations are required by calling (410) 631-6039.
