The sixth annual Free Fall Baltimore kicks off Saturday, Oct. 1 with FREE arts and culture events all month long. Economoms has scoured the more than 300 programs planned to give you a quick and easy guide to the best bets for kids.

Family Festival of Discovery at the Walters
What happens when you combine curiosity with creativity? The festival celebrates the connections between art, science, math and play. Learn about inventions created by artists, discover how scientists and artists have used art to answer questions and solve puzzles, and explore how creativity in one field can influence discoveries or breakthroughs in another. HISTORY AND HERITAGE
The War Came by Train at the B&O Railroad Museum
Discover the role the railroads played in the Civil War during the two free admission days offered by the B&O Railroad Museum.  Costumed living historians will provide information to visitors on various aspects of railroading, travel, and military life during the Civil War period.  Guided tours of the exhibit in the Roundhouse will also be available. Maryland Come Alive! at the Star Spangled Banner Flag House
Maryland’s role in the War of 1812 was more than just battles, but people who accomplished extraordinary feats! Jazz for Kids at the National Jazz Institute
A fun introduction to jazz for elementary school children featuring jazz versions of well-known children’s songs played by BJA’s five piece band and encouraging audience participation.   Families will have the opportunity to try several musical instruments. World Rythm Drum Circus at Port Discovery
Join the drumming circle which will feature drums, shakers, scrapers and boom whackers.  No musical experience necessary!  The World Rhythm Drum Circus will take place directly outside of the Museum.  Museum admission is not included. Free Admission to the National Aquarium
Participate in any family/children’s event (Mother Goose, Preschool Leaps, etc.) at any of the 22 Enoch Pratt free Libraries and receive a family 4-pack of aquarium passes.  A limited number of admission passes are available for distribution and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Passes will not be replaced if lost or unused.  Passes are valid only for Wednesday, October 19, Thursday, October 20, and Friday, October 21, 2011 during regular visiting hours.

Puppets in the Garden at Black Cherry Puppet Theatre

Stilt Walking Workshops by Nana Projects
Why stilt??  Conquering fear is a powerful thing.  Learning to fall safely means you no longer have to be cautious when you take risks.  Stilt walking is great exercise.  It’s empowering and, most of all, it is fun!  Nana Projects will offer 6 workshops throughout the month.  30 students max at each session.  Watch for signs at each of the locations.

Art Workshops at The Painting Workshop
The Painting Workshop believes, as Picasso says, “Everyone is an artist.”  Young or old, the art of creating is a joyous, exciting process.  We encourage students to try new things, to be inspired by other artists and to find their voice.  We invite children to two workshops – one for crafts and the other for painting and drawing.
