Weekend Outlook - MLK Jr. Weekend 2012

Here are Economoms' picks for the best budget-conscioud family activities in the Baltimore area over the long weekend celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., January 13-16, 2012:

All Weekend
  • Ravens Playoff Celebrations and Deals - In honor of Sunday's playoff game, lots of local attractions are offering deal to get your purple passion flowing, including $5 off Aquarium admission on Friday!
  • I Have a Dream Weekend - Port Discovery. Various activities and special events planned for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. FREE with museum admission. (Plus, their Clifford the Big Red Dog exhibit kicks off on Saturday!)
  • National Parks Fee FREE Weekend - Admission is FREE at all 397 national parks through Monday in honor of MLK, Jr.
  • Baltimore County Restaurant Week - Through Saturday, Jan. 21.
  • Recycle Your Christmas Tree for FREE Mulch - Offered Monday-Saturday through January 28. Reedbird Ave. Citizen Drop-Off Center, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • IMAX Film Festival - Maryland Science Center through March 1. Six films rotate through the festival. $12 per person (for IMAX show only, does not include museum admission). Or purchase a five movie pass for $30.
Friday
  • Fridays After Five, Prices Take a Dive - At the National Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center through March 23, 2012. Admission is $8. Dolphin shows or 4-D experiences at the Aquarium are $4. IMAX shows and Planetarium presentations are FREE at the Science Center. 
  • Friday Night Stargazing - Maryland Science Center, 5:30-9 p.m. every Friday through January 27, weather permitting. FREE! Friday After Five admission is NOT required to participate.

  • Martin Luther King Jr Parade - Starts at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street, and travels south on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Noon.
  • Jump Start January - White Marsh Mall, 6 p.m. FREE fitness classes, healthy samples and giveaways.
