Frugal, Fun and Eggcellent! Easter 2012 Activities for the Whole Family

Here's a round-up of the best budget-conscious 2012 Easter events in the Baltimore area. All activities listed are under $10 per person or absolutely FREE! Keep checking back often as we'll update this list with new events as we hear about them. We hope you have a very "hoppy" holiday!

  • Eco-Easter Playdate - aMuse Toys Quarry Lake location, 5-8 p.m. Pizza, drinks, games, egg dyeing, face painting, raffle prizes, and more. FREE!
Saturday, March 31
  • Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance's 5th Annual Egg Hunt - Patterson Park, 9 a.m. FREE!
  • Family Easter Egg Hunt - 9:30-11:30 a.m. Central Presbyterian Church in Towson. FREE!
  • Y Spring Eggstravaganza - All Maryland Family Center Y's. Dates and times vary by location over Friday, March 30-Sunday, April 1, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Breakfast with the Easter Bunny, Egg Hunt, games, crafts and more. FREE to Y members, $5 per child, or $10 per family.
  • Milburn Orchards Egg Hunt - 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Egg hunts, visits with the Easter Bunny, games, hayrides, farmyard playground, and petting zoo. $6 per child, $3 per adult, infants FREE. Also available April 1, 5, 6, 7, and 9.
  • Spring Hunt - Robert E. Lee Park in Baltimore, 1-3 p.m. $3 per person. Registration required by March 28. Call 410-887-4156.

  • Using Plant Dyes to Color Eggs - Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore, 1-3 p.m. Roots, nuts and flowers are just a few common natural ways to get many colors. $5 per person. Reservations required. Call 410-367-2217, x104.
  • Spring Bulb Show Children's Activities - Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens in Baltimore, 1:30-3:30p.m. Make bead or hemp friendship bracelets, read spring flower books, do color sheets, and make tissue paper bunnies
  • Natural Baskets - Robert E. Lee Park in Baltimore, 2 p.m. Using natural materials, create your own spring basket. Ages 12 and up. $5 per person. Registration required by March 28. Call 410-887-4156.

  • Ride the Rails with the B&O Easter Bunny - B&O Railroad Museum. Train departures at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. $3 per adult and $2 per child with museum admission. Also available Saturday, April 7.
  • Milburn Orchards Egg Hunt - 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Egg hunts, visits with the Easter Bunny, games, hayrides, farmyard playground, and petting zoo. $6 per child, $3 per adult, infants FREE. Also available March 31, April 1, 5, 7, and 9.

  • Community Easter Egg Hunt and Craft Morning - St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Frederick, 10 a.m.
  • Cromwell Valley Park Easter Egg Hunt - Sherwood Farm at Cromwell Valley Park in Towson, 10 a.m. FREE!
  • NEW! Easter Egg Hunt -  Bear Creek Elementary School in Dundalk, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. $1 per person or a nonperishable food donation.
  • Egg Hunt Weekend - Clark's Elioak Farm. Egg hunts beginning at 10:30 a.m. and running through 3:30 p.m. Also available Sunday, April 8 (Easter).

    For children ages 10 and younger with games, prizes and candy.
  • NEW! Easter Eggstravaganza - Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown, noon-3 p.m. Both kids and pets are invited to this Easter celebration. Parents can snap photos of their children and beloved pets with the Easter Bunny. Kids can hunt for eggs and play the I Spy Cat Detective game.
  • NEW! Easter Egg Hunt - Hawks Hill Creamery, noon-6 p.m. $1 per child. Food, crafts, hayrides, farm animals.
  • Spring Easter Egg Roll - Rose Hill Manor Park and Children's Museum in Frederick, 1-4 p.m. Games, crafts, and egg roll. $5 per child. Pre-registration suggested.Call 301-600-2936.
Sunday, April 8 (Easter)
  • NEW! Easter Sunrise Service - Irvine Nature Center, 6:30 a.m. FREE! Irvine will provide hot drinks and a beautiful hillside facing east. Bring chairs or blankets for comfort if desired.
  • Egg Hunt Weekend - Clark's Elioak Farm. Egg hunts beginning at 10:30 a.m. and running through 2:30 p.m. Also available Saturday, April 7.
  • NEW! Exploration Station - Rawlings Conservatory, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Children see how tulips, daffodils, onions, and banana plants are similar. They learn about modified plant parts as they make a flowering bulb plant. Children also make tissue paper bunnies for Easter. FREE!
  • Kids Eat FREE at Applebee's - All day on Easter, with the purchase of an adult entree.

  • NEW! HOP Moving Showing - Partnership Activity Hall in Laurel, 7 p.m. "HOP," a blend of state-of-the-art animation with live action, tells the comic tale of Fred, an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny. Bring a blanket, cuddle up with your family at a night out at the movies. FREE!
