Weekend Outlook - March 2-4, 2012

Thinking Spring!
It's March! Here are Economoms' picks for the best budget-conscious family activities in the Baltimore area, March 2 through 4, 2012:

All Weekend
  • IMAX Film Festival - Maryland Science Center through March 1. Six films rotate through the festival. $12 per person (for IMAX show only, does not include museum admission). Or purchase a five movie pass for $30.
Friday
  • 66% Off Red Zone Adventures - 12 rounds of mini-golf, laser tag and laser maze for 4 people, including a large pizza and a pitcher of soda for just $25! Wowzas!
  • First Friday in Hampden - On the first Friday of every month, Hampden shops stay open late, offer entertainment, and provide cheap eats and drink specials. Up and down The Avenue (36th St.)  
  • Fridays After Five, Prices Take a Dive - At the National Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center through March 23, 2012. Admission is $8. Dolphin shows or 4-D experiences at the Aquarium are $4. IMAX shows and Planetarium presentations are FREE at the Science Center. In February, the Aquarium is celebrating Black History Month furing Fridays After Five.
  • Friday Night Stargazing - Maryland Science Center, 5:30-9 p.m. every Friday through January 27, weather permitting. FREE! Friday After Five admission is NOT required to participate.
Saturday
  • Pancake Breakfast - Oregon Ridge Lodge, 8 a.m.-noon. Celebrate the end of maple sugar season! $7 for adults, $3 for children.
  • Spanish Lessons for Kids - Long Reach Community Center in Columbia. Every Saturday, 9:30-11 a.m. through March 10. Includes music, games, arts, and crafts in addition to language education. FREE!
  • FREE Admission to the American Visionary Art Museum - For Bank of America cardholders thanks to their Museums on Us program both Saturday and Sunday. The AVAM is currently featuring the All Things Round exhibit! Please note: The Reginald F. Lewis Museum for African American History is no longer participating in this the Museums on Us Program.
  • Drop-In Art Activity at the Walters - Every Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. A different theme each month. March's theme is Animales! FREE!
  • Maryland Home and Garden Show - Maryland State Fairgrounds. Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. $12 per adult, children FREE. Also available Friday March 9 through Sunday, March 11.
  • FREE Milkshake Concert - Park School, 11 a.m.
  • Brownie Girl Scout Museum Day: Can You Dig It? - Walters Art Museum, 1-3 p.m. FREE! Participants receive badges. Cub Scout Day is Sunday.
