Eggs-tra Special Easter Events!

Jelly beans, died eggs, and bunnies, oh my! Yep, Easter is just around the corner. Here's a compilation of budget-friendly activities that are sure to make the 2011 Easter season one to remember!

Throughout April
  • 16th Annual Bunnyland at Butler's Orchard: This Germantown farm has lots more activities planned than just your regular old egg hunt. How about a hay ride down bunny trail? Or a rubber ducky derby? Or a ride down a giant slide? Admission is $8 per child and $6 per adult. Click on the link for specific dates and times offered.
  • NEW! $1 Off Pictures with the Easter Bunny: Click on the link to get a coupon for $1 off your purchase when you get your photo taken with the Easter Bunny at Kenilworth Mall in Towson. Visits available now through Saturday, April 23.
Saturday, April 16
  • Easter Breakfast at the Baltimore Museum of Industry: Participate in the BMI's First Annual Easter Egg Hunt, then enjoy breakfast and a magic show, followed by a tour of the bakery exhibit, featuring Baltimore's own Mary Sue Candy Company. Cost is a bit high, but you get a lot out of this special event! $20 for adults, kids 3-12 $15 and kids under 2 are free. Reservations required.
  • Meet the Easter Bunny at Tried But True: Tried But True consignment shop in Cockeysville has invited the Easter Bunny to visit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Take your child's picture with the furry fellow, then check out their selection of gently used Easter outfits. Each child gets a special treat!
Sunday, April 17
  • Dave and Buster's Easter Egg Hunt: Not only will your kids get to do an egg hunt and meet the Easter Bunny, they also get FREE play at Dave and Buster's! RSVP by clicking on the link.
  • Spring Treasure Hunt at Oregon Ridge: The Easter Bunny has left clues for children to follow in search of hidden eggs and treasure. Choose one of two times at Oregon Ridge Nature Center in Cockeysville: 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. For kids age 4 and up. Reservations are required by Saturday, April 16. Call 410-887-1815 to make reservations.

  • Mary Sue Candies Bunny BonanZoo: Join the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore for games, spring crafts, a bounce house, live entertainment from Silly Goose and Kidsinger Jim, food and Easter egg hunts. Each child that participates in an egg hunt can redeem their found eggs for Mary Sue® chocolate eggs! FREE with regular zoo admission. Also available Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th.
  • Easter Egg Hunt at Meadowside Nature Center: Search for real eggs through the meadow, then dye and decorate the eggs you find! Reservations are required. $8 per person.
  • Ride the Rails with the B&O Easter Bunny: Hop on board the train and take a round-trip ride with the B&O Easter Bunny for a special treat. Scheduled train ride times are 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. $2 for kids and $3 for adults. Children may have their photograph taken with the B&O Bunny at Dr. Coupler's Railroad Photorium. Although a bit pricey, a breakfast buffet with the Easter Bunny is also scheduled.
  • Easter Egg Hunt at Cromwell Valley Park: Visit Cromwell Valley's Sherwood Farm from 10 a.m. to noon to make an Easter bonnet/hat, visit with the Easter Bunny, see a 4-H Rabbit Club presentation, participate in a Jelly Bean counting contest, dye eggs and last but not least, go on an egg hunt!
  • NEW! Bruch with the Easter Bunny: Confetti's Entertainment Center in Towson is throwing an Easter brunch bash! For $10 per adult and $8.50 per child, you'll be able to participate in arts and crafts, games, facepainting, and photos with the Easter Bunny. Brunch includes beverages, coffee and tea, juices, muffins/bagels, and pastries/cupcakes/danish.
Saturday, April 23
  • Easter Eggstravaganza 2011 on Capitol Hill: Last year more than 1,500 people showed up for this annual event! Two egg hunts are planned, in addition to face painting, games, bike giveaways, and more! FREE
  • Mary Sue Candies Bunny BonanZoo: See description above. Also available Friday the 22nd and Sunday the 24th.
  • Easter in Downtown Silver Spring: Get your photo taken with the Easter Bunny by the fountain then follow it up with a hunt through downtown!
  • Egg Hunt Weekend at Clark's Elioak Farm: Separate hunts for ages 1 to 3 and 4 to 6. Also, the FREE petting zoo is now open!
  • The Puppet Company's Bunny Business: See description above. Also available Wednesday, April 20.
  • Baltimore Humane Society's Easter Eggstravaganza: Families and their pets are invited for an Easter egg hunt on the "B-More Humane Field", face painting, balloon animals, and a bake sale. Children and pets can also get their photo taken by a local professional photographer!
  • Ride the Rails with the B&O Easter Bunny: See description above. Also available Friday, April 22.
  • Breakfast with the Zoo's Bunny: The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is hosting the Easter Bunny for breakfast! This event is on the more expensive side at $35 for adults and $15 for children, but it's a sell-out each year, so it must be worth it! Tickets include Enjoy breakfast, a photo with the Easter Bunny, a visit with the Animal Ambassadors, arts and crafts stations, and zoo admission for the entire day following the breakfast.
  • RESCHEDULED! Annual Egg Hunt at Patterson Park: This event was originally planned for Saturday, April 16 but was cancelled due to the rainy weather. Head over to the Eastern Avenue Playground on Saturday, April 23 for a day of egg hunting, face painting, crafts, prizes, and pictures with the Easter Bunny himself! There will be three separate egg hunts for kids ages 0-10yrs old. Registration opens at 9 am. RSVP at http://www.dbfam.org/. FREE!

  • White House Easter Egg Roll: How lucky are we that we live so close to DC? Not many kids can say they celebrated Easter at the White House! FREE
  • Easter Monday at the National Zoo: Also in DC, the National Zoo has a special day planned in celebration of Easter, with live performances and an Easter egg hunt, of course! FREE
