Check Out the Deals I Just Scored: Boot Camp and Port Discovery!
What do Coach Falcon's Fit Bodies Boot Camp and Port Discovery Children's Museum have in common? Absolutely nothing! Except that I scored both for 50% off today ... One deal for me and one deal for my family. I think that's fair, don't you?!
Port Discovery
Certifikid, the only local daily deal site targeted specifically toward children, is the first to my knowledge to bring Port Discovery to the bargain scene.
I kid you not, on Sunday, after Todd and I had taken Macy to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore (using a Groupon we had purchased earlier this fall), I said to him as we drove past Port Discovery: "We really need to get Macy there one of these weekends. I wonder if they'll ever do a deal."
Jump to Tuesday morning and Certifikid is promoting 50% off admission tickets. FATE!
Pay just $7 per person for admission (two ticket maximum) for use Sundays through Thursdays until March 2012. Kids under 2 are FREE, which means my whole family will be visiting Port Discovery for just $14! I can't wait to take Macy to Tot Trails, their exhibit just for babies and toddlers.
Alternatively, you can also score a great deal at Port Discovery by visiting the third Friday of each month for $2 Family Fun Night from 4-7 p.m.. Or, visit on Thrifty Thursdays, when admission is $8 per person after 1 p.m.
Coach Falcon's Boot Camps
Fate of sorts also brought me to this deal. See, it's been 10 months since I had Macy, and gosh darn it! ... I still haven't lost the baby weight. Everyone always tells me: "It took nine months to gain it; don't expect to lose it any quicker." Well, it's been longer than nine months since she was born, so take note: That old adage no longer brings me any comfort!
Enter last month's LivingSocial deal for Coach Falcon's Fit Body Boot Camp. Two things led me to purchase it: 1) He offers classes at 5:30 a.m. I've resigned to the fact that with a baby, a day job, and getting my MBA, early mornings are the only way to squeeze workouts in. And 2) It's close by my house. If I'm going to wake up that early, I better not have to drive far!
After taking a month of Coach Falcon's classes, two more things have kept up my motivation to keep going besides the fact that he has a cool name: 1) He makes me laugh. Again, if I'm going to wake up that early, I better be having some sort of fun. 2) The classes are small and I get individualized attention. (Now, I know by posting this I run the risk of those classes getting bigger, but that's just how devoted of an Economom I am to you guys ... Hee hee!)
So, with all that being said, get off your booty and buy today's deal from Plum District Baltimore, the daily deal site dedicated to us moms. For $50 you get unlimited boot camp classes with Coach Falcon at the Coppermine Fieldhouse in Mount Washington.
The deal is valid through January 2012 -- perfect for getting a jumpstart on that perennial New Year's resolution. I just bought mine since it's not restricted to new customers. Woohoo!

Save the Date: Winter Restaurant Week to Return
Is it too early to book a babysitter? Baltimore's favorite way to dine like kings and queens for a fraction of the normal cost is returning in just a few months.
Baltimore Winter Restaurant Week will be back Friday, Jan. 20 through Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. As usual, restaurants will offer prix-fixe three-course dinner and lunch menus. Although the price has not yet been publicized, we're guessing it will be $20.12 for lunches and $35.12 for dinners, in keeping with the event's tradition to make the cents portion of the price the same as the current year.

Exclusive to Economoms: Up to Half Off Pampered Mommas!
And Economoms has a deal exclusively for our fans that will get you 25% off their services and 50% off an in-home massage when you make a referral. Can I get a double heck yeah?!?
Pampered Mommas provides just about any spa treatment you can think of, as well as housekeeping, meal delivery, babysitting, professional photography, nursery mural design, event planning, baby proofing and more.
The best part is they come to you! All services are delivered in the comfort of your own home. Whether you're an expectant mom, new mom, or veteran mom, their services are designed to take some weight off your shoulders.
We did a quick Q&A with Rochelle, owner of Pampered Mommas and mom to two small children herself. Here's what she had to say:
What inspired you to found Pampered Mommas?
When I was pregnant with my last baby, I was on bedrest for a majority of the pregnancy and my husband tried desperately to find someone to come into our home and give me a massage and a pedicure. He was working full time, and we had a 3 year old at the time. There were so many things that I was stressed about: Housekeeping, nursery prep, family dinner, etc. After much research I discovered that there was not a service in this immediate area that was geared towards expectant and new moms. It was very important to me to offer a variety of services, a one-stop shop for moms.
What is the philosophy behind Pampered Mommas?
Moms, in general, are so concerned with the well-being of others, that we often times forget to take care of ourselves. Bringing a newborn home is one of the most exciting times in our lives, but with it also comes anxiety, stress and fear. And to be honest, sometimes moms are overlooked, not intentionally, when the baby arrives. Pampered Mommas was designed to help moms get through those times. We must take care of ourselves, it will make us better mothers in the long run.
Here's the Deal:
- Take 25% off ANY Pampered Mammas service when you book on or before Tuesday, July 5. Doula services excluded. To claim this deal, email Rochelle@pamperedmommas.com and put Economoms in the subject line.
- Refer a friend that books a service, and pay just $55 for an in-home massage -- that's 50% off! To claim this deal, email Rochelle@pamperedmommas.com and put Economoms in the subject line. Additionally, you must include the friend referral in your email. You must live in the Greater Baltimore area to take advantage of the in-home massage.

Exclusive to Economoms: 46% Off Baltimore Yoga Village Classes Plus At-Home Guided Yoga CD
Earlier this week I recounted my experience with yoga for the first time in over two years as part of my Operation Flat Belly quest. While the class was demanding, it was such a great workout--not only for my body, but my mind too. That's what I love most about yoga; it's physically challenging yet so restorative to the soul. And we all know just how important stress-relief is for us moms!
That got me to thinking it would be wonderful to offer Economoms fans a deal at a local yoga studio so you too can benefit from this great exercise alternative. Whether you're a yoga veteran or a curious newbie, this package is a great deal because it combines classes at the studio with a CD that you can use at home.
Now through March 14 Baltimore Yoga Village, located in Hampden and Mount Washington, is offering three classes and a guided yoga CD for just $35. Classes are normally $15 each, and the CD at full-price is $20. That's $30 in savings!
With this deal, take any three classes taught by Anjali Sunita, Baltimore Yoga Village owner and six-year expert. Anjali leads seven classes throughout the week offered at varying times and skill levels. Click here to view the Hampden schedule and here to check out the Mount Washington schedule.
The Om Shanti CD provides a guided yoga routine led by Anjali, so you can practice yoga between making dinner and cleaning the house, or after putting your kids to bed. Pop it in anytime you get a free minute! It includes almost 2 hours of exercises--everything from relaxing breathing techniques to shoulder and neck warm-ups to more challenging poses like the Crescent Moon.

Upscale App + Entree + Dessert = Only $35.11
They're baaaaack! Baltimore County and Baltimore City Winter Restaurant Weeks are just around the corner. You won't have an opportunity to sample Baltimore's creme de la creme cuisine at cheap prices like these again until summer 2011, so make your reservations early.
The spotlight is on Baltimore County from Friday, Jan. 14 through Friday, Jan. 28, 2011. Participating restaurants are offering one-, two-, and three-course lunch and dinner menus from $10.11 to $35.11 at five-dollar increments. Choose from 41 restaurants, most of which boast free parking (a perk that most downtown restaurants lack).
The Baltimore City event has coined iteself "the most delicious week of winter." It will last from Friday, Jan. 21 through Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011. Prix-fixe dinners are $35.11, while lunches are a bit cheaper at $20.11. Eighty-seven restaurants are participating.
Out of the 128 featured restaurants, I've eaten at 47 of them. Not bad. So here are some recommendations, based on my experience, that might help you pick a spot or two to sample.

- Don't count on the following for a romantic night out in which you're getting your $35.11 worth. The atmosphere of these places are more bar and lounge-like than upscale dining. Try them for lunch instead.
- In Baltimore County - Seven West, Fazzini's, McAvoy's, Razorbacks, Silver Spring Mining Company.
- In Baltimore City - Cafe Hon, Mt. Washington Tavern, The Owl Bar.
- These restaurants are without a doubt a great deal for your money. Under normal circumstances, you would NEVER get an appetizer, entree and dessert for just $35.11. The following are why Restaurant Week exists!!
- In Baltimore County - Cafe Troia (just went for New Year's Eve dinner and it was delish! The Piatto Misto appetizer is my fave.), Liberatore's, Linwoods, The Oregon Grille.
- In Baltimore City - b Bolton Hill Bistro, Brewer's Art, Da Mimmo, Kali's Court, Louisiana, Meli, Petit Louis, any of the Ruth's Chris locations, Salt (went here for Summer Restaurant Week and was blown away. The duck fat fries are a must.), The Wine Market.
- Best places to make a day or night out of it:
- In Baltimore County - Date night! Grab a movie at the Hunt Valley cinema, then head over to Greystone Grill for dinner.
- In Baltimore City - Gertrude's, conveniently located right inside the Baltimore Museum of Art, is not your typical museum cafe. Make reservations for lunch (it fills up quick!) then spend a relaxing afternoon browsing art. I had New Year's Eve lunch there, and the crab cake was excellent. Although I haven't been yet, I hear Mr. Rain's Funhouse in the American Visionary Art Museum is another best bet for an afternoon of good food and art.
